THE STORY OF UPENDO JUNIOR SCHOOL

The Upendo Junior School, which is situated at Kiminini Market, near Kitale in Kenya, was initially created in 2008 as a school for displaced and orphaned children following the political violence that racked Kenya in the aftermath of the national elections. Dr. Masibo Lumala organized the school as a thank you to his local community and in realization of the need to provide quality education to all children regardless of their backgrounds or ability to pay. Continued troubles in Kenya mean that there are still many needy children and many new orphans needing support.

MISSION

Our mission is to create a community of empowered and active learners in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust and to ensure that every child is inspired and challenged to learn, grow, and accomplish his or her academic, social, and personal goals to his or her utmost best by our offering a learning environment that enhances self esteem, provides role models, optimizes each child’s potential, develops a life long love for learning and for one another, and accentuates individual sense of belonging.
